11 June 2020 Manila, Philippines—Unilever Philippines has donated ventilators to various hospitals across the country and over 4000 RT-PCR test kits to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). This forms part of the company’s “Malasakit for All” program that covers support for employees, partners, and communities.
In addition, Selecta, a joint venture through Unilever-RFM Ice Cream, Inc., has provided freezer units to PRC for cold storage of PCR testing kits and other medical supplies.
PRC, a non-government humanitarian organization, is part of a national task force to test, trace, and treat those affected by COVID-19. PRC has a bio-molecular laboratory system that currently facilitates a significant percentage of the country’s Covid-19 testing.
Ventilators donated through Project Kaagapay
Through the assistance of Zuellig Pharma, Metro Drug, and the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), Unilever has been able to procure medical equipment and PPEs that are seen to complement the country’s wide-ranging health response under Project Kaagapay.
The donation forms part of the private sector-led Project Kaagapay: Protect our Healthcare Heroes organized through PDRF. The fund-raising initiative welcomes private partners to contribute support for medical front liners such as hospital equipment and protective gear.
Through Project Kaagapay, Unilever Philippines has donated the ventilators to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, East Avenue Medical Center, and National Center for Mental Health in Luzon; Southern Philippines Medical Center, Davao Regional Medical Center and Cotabato Sanitarium in Mindanao; and Vicente Sotto Medical Center and Western Visayas Medical Center in Visayas.
“Unilever is grateful to be part of one of the biggest private sector collaborations to help the country move forward. Through our purpose-driven brands and people, we continue to find ways to extend assistance where it is needed,” shared Ed Sunico, Vice President for Unilever SEA Communications.
In March, Unilever announced a global commitment to continue helping people around the world through donations of soap, sanitizer, bleach and cash flow relief to support livelihoods across its extended value chain. Aligned with this, Unilever Philippines activated a local response of a Php100M donation of food and hygiene products and an additional contribution of Php1M for PPEs from its employees.
