Unilever, Volunteers Cleanup for EARTH DAY
In celebration of International Earth Day, Unilever Philippines together with nearly 300 Manila residents and volunteers from the Department of Public Services (DPS) and Leonel Waste Management, embarked on a clean up drive and sidewalk clearing operation in Barangay Cristobal, Manila.
Participants were provided with cleaning gloves, masks, garbage bags, brooms and rakes to collect both biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. Prior to the clean-up activity, they were also given a three-day workshop organized by Unilever and City of Manila on solid waste management to better understand the importance of taking care of the environment. As a result, the volunteers were able to collect three truckloads of garbage from different households.
“Unilever’s mission which is to add vitality to life extends to our immediate communities and partners from different sectors. We recognize how the environment significantly impacts one’s vitality and so we are in full support of this initiative as it effectively engages them to take better care of their surroundings, thus, making a positive contribution to preserving our earth, “according to Unilever senior community relations manager Sonny Vibandor.
In addition to these activities, Unilever also participated in the annual fluvial parade organized by the Sagip Pasig Movement. Decorated boats plied the Pasig River from Plaza Mexico to the Mall of Asia. Also aboard were representatives from several community-based organizations.
